The echocardiography substudy involved 411 patients from the SHIFT trial in whom echocardiograms were performed at baseline and after eight months of treatment. This study showed that treatment with ivabradine is associated with significant reductions in left ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic volumes and a significant increase in left ventricular ejection fraction. These findings suggest that ivabradine modifies disease progression in patients with Heart Failure and are consistent with the improvement in clinical outcomes found in the main SHIFT study.
